Although most New Yorkers are probably still thinking about last night’s Giants Super Bowl win (or are at least nursing a nice football hangover), I’m taking one for the team and already looking ahead to a week of NYC-area shows. As usual, there are plenty of good options this week, including Jay-Z, Bjork, tUnE-YaRds, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe covering the Rolling Stones, and two nights each of Primus and Tea Leaf Green. Read on for all the highlights as I see ’em…

The week kicks off with two nights of Jay Z playing the legendary Carnegie Hall.

Bjork is sticking around town a little longer to give NYC more of her Biophilia Live show out in Queens at the New York Hall of Science.

For something similarly wild and eclectic (though decidedly smaller and intimate), check out tUnE-YaRds at the Allen Room at Lincoln Center.

For a bit more of a world/jazz vibe, I’m liking this show with Xalam Project w/ Club d’Elf at Pianos.

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe has teamed up with Anders Osborne to cover the Rolling Stones’ Sticky Fingers album. They’re at Webster Hall on Wednesday night and are sure to provide a rocking Stones throwdown.

Continuing the “Freaks Ball” trend from a few weeks back, Joe Russo, Scott Metzger, Erik Deutsch, and Gara Ben-Ari are doing the Freaks Night Out at Brooklyn Bowl on Thursday, with Morning Teleportation in the opening slot.

For something a bit more dance and groove-centric, The Indobox is a good option. They’ll steam things up at Sullivan Hall on Friday.

Even more of a freak shows in NYC? Yep, this week we get two nights of Primus bringing the freaky ruckus to the Music Hall of W’burg and the Gramercy Theater.

And last but not least, we’ve also got Tea Leaf Green doing a two-night run this weekend, trading between the Bowery Ballroom and Brooklyn Bowl on Friday and Saturday.

Of course, if those selections don’t do it for ya, read on a few other interesting shows going on this week in NYC…
