This week’s NYC concert calendar features another diverse mix of shows, including a six-night run by the National, My Morning Jacket at MSG, American Babies at Mercury Lounge, and two nights of Atlas Sound, among many other interesting shows.

The National kicks off a six-night run at the Beacon with a bunch of great bands in the opening slot for each show (The War on Drugs open tonight’s show).

Tuesday night, I highly recommend the first of two shows that are part of the “All Together Now” music and film project, which Sam from Dog Gone Blog hipped us to a while back. Tuesday night’s lineup is Superhuman Happiness, Thought, Minerva Lions, Beyondo, and itsnotyouitsme, which will definitely make for an interesting mix of horn grooves and cool rhythmic textures.

Also in the middle of the week is another funky soul throwdown by the always-entertaining Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings.

Adding even more weight to the midweek show calendar is My Morning Jacket at Madison Square Garden w/ Band of Horses. This should sufficiently rawk.

Thursday night, Tommy Hamilton and his American Babies are doing an “Alumni Holiday Show” at the Mercury Lounge with Joe Russo, Scott Metzger and a few other special guests that have shared the stage with Tommy in the past (I wouldn’t be surprised if we get guest appearances by Dave Dreiwitz of Ween or maybe even Aron Magner of the Disco Biscuits). Not only that, they’ll also be taking on the challenge of performing songs from CSNY’s classic album Déjà Vu.

Thursday night, I’m also liking Ducktails 285 Kent Ave in Williamsburg for something a little more mellow and vibe-y.

But if you want to dance, then you should hit up 149 Kent Ave (Williamsburg) for a DJ set by former LCD Soundsytem frontman James Murphy.

For more beats and breaks, there’s also cool event going down at Canal Room on Friday night, featuring Marc Brownstein and Aron Magner (of the Disco Biscuits) and baddass drummer Adam Deitch.

Speaking of Disco Biscuits side projects, Allen Aucoin’s also in town and bringing his own electro drum show, Dr Fameus, to Sullivan Hall on Saturday night. This one seems ripe for some sit-ins from Magner or Brownstein, doesn’t it?

If that’s not rock’n’roll enough for ya, then check out the Hold Steady at 149 Kent Avenue with Wakey Wakey and Titus Andronicus.

This weekend also features two nights of Atlas Sound, the solo project by Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox. This dude puts together some amazing loops and textures with just vocals, guitar, and some effects pedals. He’ll be at Bell House (Saturday night) and the Bowery (on Sunday).

Also on Sunday night, there’s the oddball instrumental stylings of Delicate Steve at Brooklyn Bowl. These guys are fun and quirky.

As always, those are just the highlights as I see ’em. Read on for all the details and plenty of other great shows…
