You know that big behemoth of a showcase / music festival that is otherwise known as SXSW? Yeah, maybe you’ve heard of it?
They posted their schedule earlier this week and I’m just now trying to dig in and figure out who’s playing where and when. As I mentioned briefly before, I’m going to be down in Austin this year for the festival and I’m really looking forward to some of the showcases you might have seen posted elsewhere recently. And check this out, I’m actually on their website now. Yes, I know — I’m gorgeous, please go on…
As for the music showcases, the big one on the indie side of the house was the announcement of The Hot Freaks. Billed as a multi-faceted, multi-blog curated set of showcases featuring many up-and-comers you may see other bloggers writing about, this has a lot of potential and I’m very interested to see how this turns out. It’s slated for Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17.
Elsewhere, JamBase has an interesting night planned on Saturday, March 17 — they’re welcoming JJ Grey & MOFRO, Les Claypool/Electric Apricot, Stephen Kellogg & The Sixers, West Indian Girl, and Outformation. I’d attend this on Electric Apricot alone, as many of you know I had a minor obsession over Les and his mockumentary early last year.
There’s so many other events going on, most of which is being covered over at the Donewaiting.com SXSW Blog. Head on over there if you’re interested in some of the smaller (and not to be ignored) events that you won’t see everyone and their brother writing home about. Expect plenty of updates from me from down there and a lot more as the date continues to rapidly approach…
