Big Surprise: Lollapalooza Makes Money

“The numbers are in on the Aug. 4-6 Lollapalooza festival in Chicago’s Grant Park, and they blow last year’s event out of the park. The event grossed nearly $8 million in ticket sales, with total paid attendance of more than 166,000. Last year’s Lolla, its first as a one-off festival, had a total paid attendance 60,000 from a two-day event.” [Billboard]

“I think it’s only going to get bigger and better.” — I think this is a bad idea simply for the fact that bigger certainly does not mean better. It was large enough. Don’t make it bigger. Please.

  1. I agree. In all honesty, I liked the year before better. The stages were right there and I was able to see everything I wanted to.

This year you really had to pull back and choose. Although you could hear the bands better with no cross over sound.

Too many people this year, all out to see the one song they were interested in and then back to shoving and pushing their way to another stage they’d stay at for five minutes.

Kind of annoying. Mr. Farrell, let’s keep it sizeable.

  3. Tho bigger isn’t better for the fans, I’m thrilled that they’re finally making money! That means I’m guaranteed of another chance to catch it. I didn’t make it out this year, but you betta believe I’ll be there next year!

  5. Too many people, yes. Too crowded for big shows. I’d pay a little bit more to keep it more exclusive. Also, I noticed for the most part, people are very well-behaved at lollapalooza. That is really REALLY great to see.
