Mike “Cactus” Gordon is going to get another chance to the “sexy bump” with his mom (re: Coventry)…
Starting Friday, March 10 at the Firehouse Gallery in Burlington, VT, a collaborative exhibit featuring the works of Mike Gordon and Marjorie Minkin will be on display highlighting sculptures that Marjorie shaped while listening to Cactus’ Inside In album. [link]
Not only will they look cool, they’ll sound cool, too.
The twenty works in the show each contain a special sensor that triggers a digital recording when a gallery visitor walks in front of the art. Those sensors amplify the sound as people get closer to them. Gordon adds, “the gallery-goer gets to improvise by making sounds when they move around.”
Awesome. A dancer will be on hand at the opening night to make the exhibits make noise, and I’m sure we’ll see some glowsticks…
Gordon expects plenty of Phishheads will show up to see his latest project at the opening March 10th. He also invited his former band mates, getting an RSVP from Phish keyboardist Paige McConnell.

GORDON & MINKIN PRESENT ANOTHER SIDE OF IN
February 9, 2006
“Another Side of In,” a collaborative installation that Mike and his mother, Marjorie Minkin have been working on together for the last several years, will make its gallery debut on March 10th at the Firehouse Gallery in Burlington, Vermont, running through April 30th. Minkin created her abstract, Lexan pieces to visually represent Gordon’s ambient audio textures extracted from his 2003 album Inside In. The audio is triggered by viewer’s movements in the gallery to create a continually shifting soundscape.
The exhibition will provide a stimulating opportunity for viewers to interact with the installation on a variety of levels. There will be an opening reception for Another Side of In on Friday, March 10 from 5-8pm and an Artist Talk/Q&A session on Saturday, March 11 at 2pm. Both events are open to the public.
