I’m catching up on some of my reading around the internet, and I got stopped dead in my tracks once I made it over to Glide Magazine. There are some great updates there if you haven’t stopped by that site in a while, so get yo’ ass over there already…
On their downloads page, they’re hosting a Wilco set from their prequel to the Yankee Hotel Foxtrot tour, a small, intimate, showcase-like night at Otto’s in Dekalb, IL. It’s pretty much the premier venue for any band interested in playing Northern Illinois University, just an hour and a half from Chicago and deep into the Illinois farmland stench. Great selection for a show…
They just posted their fourth podcast, Smell the Glove #4 (still the coolest name for a podcast ever), featuring music from Michael Houser’s posthumous release, Sandbox, and interview clips with the man behind the boards for both of Mikey’s releases, John Keane. I’ll be downloading that once I’m done grabbing the Wilco tracks.
Man, let’s see what else…
The cover story on Rogue Wave–a band I’m just now getting into and I happen to really enjoy their albums–sheds some interesting light on how they’re functioning together as a band. I imagine it was a hard piece to put together considering their disdain for music critics and journalists, and it seems to me like so many bands are just above themselves and don’t feel that their music cannot be categorized.
I don’t know, it just seems too easy to say “well, we like to mix in a lot of different things…” and that means you can’t be classified. No, it just means that whoever writes anything about you should make sure that they make that aspect clear. If they don’t, well then they’re doing you a disservice, but any publicity is good publicity in this business and they know it.
Last but not least, there’s a video clip of Michael Franti and Spearhead doing Sometimes from last year’s Summer Camp Music Festival. Give me a HOW YOU FEELIN’?!?!?!?!?! as loud as you can…
