Where will you be on September 20th? I know where I’d like to be…at home in Madison Square Garden.
A number of New Orleans legends will team with some of today’s biggest pop acts for a Katrina Relief benefit at New York’s Madison Square Garden on September 20. “From the Big Apple to the Big Easy” will feature New Orleans icons Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint, The Neville Brothers, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Rebirth Brass Band and The Meters.
This performance will mark The Meters’ first New York performance in over 20 years. More mainstream artists scheduled to appear include John Fogerty, Loggins & Messina, Elton John, Earth, Wind & Fire, Jimmy Buffett, Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, Lenny Kravitz and Bette Midler.
Produced by the team behind the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the multi-band gathering will aim to bring an eclectic audience together for Katrina relief. One of the many benefits scheduled in the coming weeks, “From the Big Apple to the Big Easy” has pledged a million dollers to hurricane victims, thanks to host sponsors Madison Square Garden. —Relix, 9/8
