CONCERT RECAP: Dopapod @ Olives, Nyack, NY 12/8/12
Dopapod hits Olive’s like a Freight Train.

Dopapod finished their huge 4 month tour barreling into Nyack like a freight train (more on that later). Dopapod hit the road on September 4th in Morgantown, WV Going as far north as Burlington, Vt and as far south as Boca Raton, Fl hitting every major market in between. With Redivider, Dopapod’s third studio album coming out on December 21st (available at Dopapod.com, free for a limited time) with huge buzz, all anticipated this last show of the tour to be huge…..and it was.
Speakerbot kicked off the night with a fury of a disco dance party that was truly one for the books. His style of “nu-disco” mixed with some of the hits from the 70’s and 80’s makes you feel like your going right back to Studio 54.
Dopapod hit the stage in a huge way breaking out with “FABA” an amazing opener, followed by the a jaw dropping “My Elephant vs. Your Elephant > Blast 2,3 punch”. My Elephant Vs. Your Elephant teased Phish’s “Stash” which bought a few smiles to the crowd. The crowd dynamic from the first minute Dopapod hit the stage was boisterous, they kept chomping at the bit wanting more and more of the amazing energy that was not only coming from the band but from one another. It was truly something electric. Dopapod finished the first set with a huge version of Alanis Morrisette’s “You Oughta Know” which was welcomed by the crowd screaming the chorus right back at the band. Truly a fun set closer.
After another set of Speakerbot the boys were ready to play their final set of the tour. And what a set it was. Warming the crowd up with “Microcuts” they then transitioned to a enjoyable combo of “Eight Years Ended>Flipped”. What happened next was what made Olive’s almost ignite in flames, when Ryan Liatsis of Shwizz came on stage to sit in during “Freight Train” . The jazzy rock style of Liatsis really put people in shock and awe during this sit in. Half way through the song Chuck Jones jumped off stage and handed his bass to Frankie Coda, also of Shwizz, much to Frank’s surprise. The combination of the music that was coming out of the speakers sounded like that of a band that has been playing together for 20 years. The chemistry that was happening during the “Freight Train” jam was truly something special and will not be forgotten inside the walls of Olive’s anytime soon.
The show ended with a huge 3 song, 35 plus minute encore. Starting it off with “Black and White” and finishing with two songs off “Redivider”—“Weird Charlie” and my personal favorite “Trapper Keeper” which contained some of the best energy from the room and the band I have ever seen. When the show was over and it was time to leave I heard a few people saying how that was the best and favorite Dopapod show they have seen. Well I for one would have to agree.
