The 3-night, no-rules, no-repeats My Morning Jacket run at The Wiltern gets underway on Tuesday night after an opening set by Portugal. The Man. As a follower of all things MMJ since the day Z hit the shelves, the chance to see the band dig deep into their catalog on a mid-week, multi-night run just a few miles from my doorstep seems like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, having missed other storied runs by the band like the ’07 Under-the-Sea Prom shows at Athens, GA’s 40 Watt Club, the 5 night T5 NYC Run in 2010 and last month’s weekend heat sessions at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Safe to say, it’ll be exciting to see what unfolds Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on the corner of Western & Wilshire in such intimate confines and the possibilities going in are pretty endless. Going in to T5, there was a playbook, at Red Rocks it was only two nights. This go round, we’ve got three nights featuring three very different openers/potential guests and no guidance for how it’ll play out. Therefore, your guess (or request) is as good as mine.
Therefore, in recognition of the fan-curated Spontaneous Curation Series Tour, might as well add my wishful requests to the dreamer’s pile – see below for how I would draw up Tuesday’s setlist if given the magic pen and pad.
Regardless of how it shakes out, extremely excited to see what we’ve got in store at #MMJWiltern1!
