RECAP: My Morning Jacket Soundcheck Party @ Red Rocks Amphitheatre 8/4/12

Perhaps you’ve noticed that we’ve amped up our MMJ coverage over the past couple of weeks. It’s for good reason too – the band has been tearing it up this summer and the Spontaneous Curation Series shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre that went down this past weekend are already being haled by longtime Jacket fans as two of the best shows in the band’s 14-year history (On paper, both Friday and Saturday are perhaps the best since 12/31/08 at MSG). Night One was highlighted by rare-played, yet highly sought after deep tracks and notable covers of INXS, The Clash and Erykah Badu. The marathon Saturday show that followed reads like a live music epic on paper and most notably featured sit-ins by John Oates, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue and Ben Bridwell of Band of Horses. Between shows, MMJ invited Roll Call fan club members to a soundcheck party on the rocks and our friend Michael Popa shared his photos and a brief video from the special occasion which you can see below.
