Come check out the sweet serenades of brand spankin’ new folk rock outfit Father John Misty, fronted by singer-songwriter, Joshua Tillman, who, fear ye not, is certain to impress. From 2008 until his recent, sudden departure, Tillman was a big part of the critical success story that the Fleet Foxes have been crafting with their transcendent, pastoral folk stylings. However, Tillman’s new band and LP have already turned heads and Father John Misty appears to be strong and unique enough to stand tall on its own aside from links to his old band. The Americana soul strokes and ballads of the recently released album, Fear Fun, are ripe with emotion, from joyous songs inspired by a somewhat absurd humor, to more mysterious tracks, embedded with undertones of mischief and mere mortality. Tillman describes the inspiring force of the album as “unbelievably liberating,” and in the captivating aura of its live performance, you too are sure to be set free.
