LMB NYC: Concert Calendar (May 14-20) – Beach House, Barr Brothers, Maps & Atlases, Dumpstaphunk, The Great GoogaMooga
This week in NYC live music is a bit quieter and more random than previous weeks, but still offers up plenty of the goods. For well-crafted singer-songwriter-y stuff, I’m liking The Barr Brothers, Beach House, and Maps & Atlases. For something louder and more fuzz-worthy, don’t miss the new combo of Ty Segall and White Fence. Also, if you’re a lover of the Weisennborn guitar like I am, then check out David Lindley. For a straight-up dose of bass-heavy funk, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstapunk is a good option. And for some comedy with plenty of music involved, check out the one and only Reggie Watts.
But the big event going down this week is the new Superfly Presents joint, the Great GoogaMooga, a new festival in Prospect Park that will offer up a plethora of food and beer & wine, along with some good tunes from The Roots, Hall & Oates, Fitz & The Tantrums, Holy Ghost!, Charles Bradley, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, among many others. Dig on in for some sample tunage and this week’s full list of interesting NYC shows…
