A Closer Look at the 1st Annual Nolafunk Jazzfest Series

As one of the newcomers to the late night scene (helping fill a void left by Superfly Presents’ reduced presence on the late night scene in 2012 (only 2 shows this year)), the First Annual Nolafunk Jazzfest Series 2012 lineup is now complete with the addition of Daptone Records’ Afro-Cuban slither funksters The who, along with the destructive epic weirdness of and special guests, will help set off the Oddity Faire After-Party at Republic on May 5th.

In total, the impressive post-Fest series features eight shows over both weekends of including , , , , 7 Walkers, and the co-bill with ’s star-studded Black Eye Galaxy Release Party w/ & and ’s “Swampland Jam” featuring Mardi Gras Indians & more.

The First Annual Nolafunk Jazzfest Series Inaugural Event (click link for details) will launch at Republic on Friday, April 27 with a star-studded lineup that offers a welcomed reprise of an already legendary late night show from 2011 that included three hours of Grateful Dead, Little Feat, and tunes alongside a bevy of thrilling covers.

Veterans of the frenzied, no-holds-barred music scene that descends upon after dark, New York City-based event promoters CEG co-produced the Backbeat Jazzfest Series from 2008 – 2011. Moving into 2012 and now throwing late nights under the Nolafunk moniker, CEG honors the musical heroes and spirit of in New York City all year round, producing concerts in the Big Apple featuring many of the Big Easy’s finest musicians.

NOTE: All shows are at Republic, apart from one show: , 7 Walkers, and Anders Osborne at the Howlin’ Wolf on 4/28. Also, note that ALL Republic shows will be non-smoking.
