Happy Record Store Day 2012

by -

One of our favorite days of the year has arrived, today is Record Store Day. Whether you’re in Nashville and waiting to line up at Grimey’s, in San Francisco queing at Amoeba Music, or down here in New Orleans hoping to snag some rare vinyl at Euclid Records, today is a great day to give back to the cultural beacons that help keep independent music alive and prospering. Check your local retailer’s site, generally most will have local bands playing all day and if you stick around long enough, you never know who’ll stop in. In 2008, while watching a local country bluegrass band in the Grimey’s back lot on Record Store Day, country music Hall-of-Famer, the late-great Charlie Louvin stopped in to sing a couple after diggin’ through some of the bargain crates.

In the spirit of Record Store Day and music discovery, we’d like to also feature an LMB favorite: Check out Athens, GA’s FUTUREBIRDS if you haven’t already, who are set to release an 8-song live vinyl called Seney-Stovall, details and a sample below, courtesy of Hey Reverb:

From FUTUREBIRDSMUSIC.com:

On Record Store Day we will release Seney-Stovall, a collection of eight spirited live tracks hand-picked from that show and pressed onto vinyl at United Record Pressing in Nashville, TN. We’re stoked about this and think that you will really enjoy it. If you don’t have a record player, don’t sweat. The release will also be available via all major digital outlets.

We will celebrate Seney-Stovall on Record Store Day with our second performance at the recently renovated Georgia Theatre. The night is presented by Wuxtry Records, a staple of our scene and one of two surviving stores in town. Tickets are currently on sale at Wuxtry and through the Georgia Theatre Website.
