LMB NYC Concert Calendar (March 12-18): Allman Brothers, Black Keys, New Multitudes and more

This week in NYC shows, we’ve got another big benefit at Carnegie Hall, the Allman Brothers continue their Beacon run, plus shows by The Black Keys, Megafaun, New Multitudes, and more. Read on for the weekly highlight reel…

Another week, another big ass star-studded show at Carnegie Hall. This one is in honor of the Stones, formally called The Music of the Rolling Stones: Hot Rocks 1964-1971 @ Carnegie Hall. The show will feature Rosanne Cash, Steve Earle, Carolina Chocolate Drops, The Mountain Goats, Glen Hansard, Rich Robinson, Jackie Greene, Taj Mahal, Jackson Browne, Art Garfunkel, Marianne Faithfull, Rickie Lee Jones, Ronnie Spector, Peaches, Marc Cohn, Jovanotti & Members of TV on the Radio, Angelique Kidjo, and Gomez.

Hot off their first couple nights at the Beacon, the Allmans Brothers continue their annual multi-night run at the Beacon. Check out this acoustic take on “Come On Into My Kitchen,” complete with Oteil on banjo, from this past weekend’s festivities:

The “big arena rock show” of the week is The Black Keys stepping up to the big stage at Madison Square Garden. Arctic Monkeys will open.

Another hot ticket this week is New Multitudes at Webster Hall, the new folk-rock supergroup featuring Jay Farrar (of Son Volt), Jim James (of My Morning Jacket), Will Johnson, and Anders Parker.

Continuing the acoustic guitar theme, there’s also the NYC return of Megafaun, still touring in support of their fantastic self-titled record from fall 2011. They’re playing the Highline Ballroom with finger-picking virtuoso William Tyler opening.

If you want something acoustic but decidedly in the bluegrass camp, then your best bet this week is the Infamous Stringdusters with Hot Day at the Zoo at the Bowery. The ‘Dusters are always a finger-picking good time.

And here’s where things get funky and jazzy. Occasional Garage-a-Trois percussion/vibe dude, Mike Dillon, will be joined by Will Bernard and members of Yojimbo Funk at Sullivan Hall this Wednesday.

The Bernie Worrell Orchestra takes over at (Le) Poisson Rouge this weekend, with Marco Benevento playing a solo set to kick things off.

In what’s sure to be a feast of rhythm and syncopation, percussion master, Cyro Baptista will be joined by EMEFE and Superhuman Happiness Saturday night at Littlefield.

If you’re looking for something even more dance-worthy, then there are also some good EDM and live electronic options this week.

Members of LCD Soundsystem and Hot Chip perform as New Build and Professor Genius at Mercury Lounge.

There’s also Squarepusher, playing Webster Hall on Thursday.
