LMB NYC: This Week’s Concert Calendar (Jan. 23-29)

Rubblebucket @ moe.down 2011

This week in the NYC concert scene, we’ve got moe. doing a record release show, Rubblebucket and Superhuman Happiness hit the Bowery for a great double bill, Cloud Nothings playing Webster Hall, we get two nights of instrumental Zeppelin jams from our friends Bustle in Your Hedgerow, and Charles Bradley will bust out his James Brown tribute “Black Velvet.” Read on for the highlights as I see ‘em…

On Monday, moe. celebrates the release of their new album, What Happened to the La Las, at Hiro Ballroom. Sure to be heavy on guitar pyrotechnics and rawk.

Two very eclectic, horn-centric bands — Rubblebucket and Superhuman Happiness — make up a killer bill at the Bowery Ballroom this Saturday (with Prussia in the opening slot). This will be an awesome show…

Superhuman Happiness:

Tall Tall Trees — an indie folk group that strike me a bit as a mix of Mumford & Sons and Megafaun — are playing Brooklyn Rod & Gun. Don’t know them well, but I’m digging what I hear so far…

If you’re looking for something more in the pithy pop-punk category, then Cloud Nothings are a great bet. This sound isn’t normally my thing, but I love their last album and the way they guys rip through concise, pop-punk tunes with reckless abandon. I’m hearing their new album is a bit different but also potentially even better than their last. They’re at Webster Hall w/ Jump Into The Gospel and Bleeding Rainbow.

There’s also an interesting show on Saturday out in Queens at the K&K Super Buffet (no, seriously). The lineup includes Real Estate, Black Dice, The Babies, Dogleather, and DJ sets by Oneohtrix Point Never and Ducktails. I imagine it’ll be an interesting mix of mellow, washed-out vibe-rock (Real Estate) and crazy, experimental noise-rock (Black Dice)….or something.

Instrumental Zeppelin masterminds, Bustle in Your Hedgerow, are back for a two-night run at Brooklyn Bowl. Joe Russo + Marco Benevento + Dave Driewitz + Scott Metzger = Rock’n’rolllll!

And last but not least….

How about the Daptone Records soul sensation Mr. Charles Bradley doing a tribute to James Brown? Um, yes, please! Saturday night “Black Velvet” plays the Hiro.

As always, read on for all the details and some other interesting shows happening this week in NYC…
