LMB NYC: This Week’s Concert Calendar (Dec. 19-25) Pre-Holiday Edition

After a stellar week New York-area shows, things quiet down a bit for this week’s concert calendar as we head into the holidays.

There are still some decent shows going on this week, but because of the slimmer selection, I thought I’d add a few extra videos to help give this one a bit more meat. Check it out…

Yo La Tengo is back with their annual eight-night Hanukkah residency at Maxwel’s in Hoboken. With eight nights to fill, the bands tends to dig deep on catalog, bust out some great covers, and generally kick up the antics for these intimate shows.

The “Hanukkah run” seems to be increasing in popularity and Matisyahu — who recently shed his trademark beard — is back in NYC for his annual “Festival of Light.” He’s doing eight nights at venues throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan:

(I couldn’t resist posting this sit-in with the Disco Biscuits…dub-nasty)

There’s also some quality hip-hop shows this week including Common and Digable Planets, two of my favs from the 90s era:

For something more indie and psychedelic, Woods is a great option, and they’re back at Glasslands tonight.

In the spirit of the season, I couldn’t resist posting some Trans Siberian Orchestra. TSO brings their part-metal, part-classical, and completely bombastic holiday extravaganza to Nassua Coliseum this Wednesday.
