This week in NYC the live music scene calms down a bit, with much slimmer pickings than the last few weeks. But there’s still some good stuff to sink your teeth into, including a few more two- and three-night runs (playing off of last week’s theme). Check it:

John Scofield sets up shop at the Blue Note for a multi-night NYC run. Not sure if these shows will feature his funky stuff or his more traditional jazz stylings, but he’s sure to put on a good show and bust out that signature “Sco” guitar tone.

Taking a break from their standing gig as Jimmy Fallon’s house band, The Roots will hit the Highline Ballroom for two nights on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The String Cheese Incident makes their triumphant NYC return with a two-night stand way uptown at the United Palace Theater.

If those two- and three-night runs don’t do it for you, here are some other interesting one-offs that are catching my eye.

Two-thirds of MMW — John Medeski and Billy Martin — are once again teaming up as MAGO for some more fun and funk down at LPR.

Avey Tare (of Animal Collective) is doing a rare solo slot at the Knitting Factory on Friday night, which should definitely be interesting, if not totally out-there and psychedelic.

Charles Bradley — another gem from the retro-soul powerhouse that is Daptone Records — will bring his soul-stirring vocals to the Bowery Ballroom on Friday.
