REVIEW / PHOTOS / VIDEOS: The Chris Robinson Brotherhood @ Tipitina’s – 8/30/11
The Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson and his new psychedelic western-rock outfit stopped in this week at Tipitina’s for a Tuesday night gig, only a few shows into their massive 50 date national tour. First and foremost, the band is great – George Sluppick (formerly of MOFRO, Robert Walter’s 20th Congress) is a hard-driving beast on the kit who, along with Muddy Dutton (Bass – Burning Tree, L.A. Guns) keeps the music clean and moving. Neal Casal (Ryan Adams and the Cardinals) and Adam MacDougall (The Black Crowes) handle the guitar and keyboard leads respectively. On Tuesday night, Mr. Robinson himself wielded the axe, knocking out some pretty solid six string work in his own right (don’t worry – he still has enough enough room for his signature wiggle…).
