Tour Dates: Umphrey’s McGee Debut “Miami Virtue”

by -

The first cut from the new Umphrey’s McGee album, Death by Stereo, was just debuted over at Time.com.

It’s been more than two years without an album from progressive rock band Umphrey’s McGee. Now, TIME has the first listen of their new song, “Miami Virtue.”

They’re not so overwhelmed by the track, but I’ve got to say that it has all those classic elements and sounds I would expect to hear out of the band these days. Obviously they’re still a touring force and a band that’s continued to innovate in the way they release music, interact with their fans, and generally keep things interesting with those folks that follow along with these guys on the boards. That is to say, that the band releasing a track exclusively to Time.com as a music premier destination seems a bit odd, but maybe that’s exactly what UM is doing these days — keeping the fans guessing.

Keep reading to hear the track and get a list of the band’s current tour dates, including their Hauntlanta two-night run at the Tabernacle.

yeah, that  time.com debut is just odd. I guess that’s the extra hook-up they get with the ATO deal, but you’d think they’d find something a bit closer to their niche and not quite so mainstream.

of course, like most jamband albums, I doubt this album will get much traction, and then they’ll just carry on with their standard focus of heavy touring, live downloads, and merch sales….which seems to work fine well for them.
