Guns N’ Roses ‘Chinese Democracy’ Set for Nov. 23 Release

by -

Okay, so I know this isn’t about live music per se but this is still pretty huge news in the music world.

More than a decade after its conception, Guns N’ Roses’ “Chinese Democracy” will finally see the light of day before year’s end, sources close to the situation confirms to Billboard. As first reported here, the set will be a Best Buy exclusive and will be available Sunday, Nov. 23, rather than the usual Tuesday.

I’ve purposely avoided any and all musical samples that got leaked earlier this year as I want this whole thing to be a surprise to me. I remember the day that the Metallica “black album” came out and where I was when someone brought it into the skate shop I was hanging out at. This was this collective hush in the room when we finally put the album on. I feel that I want to have that experience with this album before having it tainted.

That said, I’m sure many of you have sampled. “It’s like driving past a car crash…you just have to look…” For those of you that have actually heard this potential garbage, what are your thoughts? Can Axl really stage a comeback through GNR or is this guy so far beyond a joke that it’s not even funny anymore?

I’m not sure what this is going to be, but I do know that it ain’t Guns n Roses. If anything it is Axl and a band, but not GNR.

Having heard ten songs now, it’s evident why there are new band members–Axl wanted to go in a direction the others didn’t. That being said, Slash could not play half the shit on these songs–he’s just not technically proficient. I would say a some of the songs are typical GnR with a bit of a modern edge (the title cut and Better are two examples). There was a Time being along the lines of a Estranged in it’s epic-ness. Message For You is quite a departure, sounding like an adult contemporary song at the start–but this has grown to be a favorite. Love this song. If the World Ends Today is different as well, with a 70’s vibe to it. All in all, from the songs I’ve heard, the album should be pretty diverse. Whether one wants to accept the fact that it’s GnR or just Axl is irrelevant to the end result, which is some pretty good music.
