Mile High Music Festival | All New Colorado Fest

milehighfest.jpg

Yet another new festival enters the arena. The first ever Mile High Festival will take place July 19th and 20th at the Fields at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado (9 miles outside of downtown Denver). Headliners include Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Steve Winwood, and The Black Crowes.

We’ve heard some rumblings of a new festival for the Denver Metro area, so I guess this is the one. And it’s a lineup that should grab some national attention. I don’t get the sense that these headliners will drive a ton of interest from the jam kids or the indie hipsters, but those folks might take a look at the rest of the lineup and dig what they see. It’s an interesting strategy and might just pay off for a city-specific festival like this one.

Lost in Alaska: not too many places to stay near by except for a couple hotels that might be booked already. I am REALLY upset that there is no camping. How can you have a music fest without camping? Maybe some farmer nearby will have camping on his farm. That would be a great idea. Anyway, I am a fellow DMB fan. If you need a place to crash, I can hook you up as long as if I come to Alaska to go skiing you do the same. Peace, Mike mw1000pieces@yahoo.com

Ya, great lineup, but crappy location. During the city council meetings the zoo (located on north side of City Park) complained first that they’d lose $$$ because of all the traffic/parking. Chuck says, “How much?” Zoo says “about 300-grand.” Chuck says, “I’ll give you 300-grand RIGHT NOW.” That’s when the zoo said, “Oh, well, the noise is bad for the animals.”

WTF? Now the zoo is having concerts at the zoo. Why would you want to showcase Denver in Commerce City? City Park, Wash Park, heck, even Civic Center Park would be best (although there would be MAJOR traffic probs for Civic Center Park).
