Collection of SXSW Swag (free with badges)

Howdy folks. Happy Sunday night.

As we take a moment to reflect back on the week that just happened, I’m already seven days ahead and thinking about SXSW 2008. This is the second year that I’ve attended and I’m excited to attend panels, meet people, schmooze at parties, and catch many amazing concerts all within the span of nine days. A true Spring Break for me.

For whoever else is going, I’m down for meeting up with whoever makes it down there also. We’ve got a crew from LMB representing and ripping up the entire festival, from Interactive to Flatstock to Music. It’s too bad we won’t have matching t-shirts. Or maybe we will — that wouldn’t be too hard to get together in a week’s time…

Read on for a roundup of the stuff we posted this week and check back often this week as we gear up for Langerado and SXSW. It’s a good time to be a live music fan.

  • 10,000 Lakes Festival | 2008 Lineup Announced
Another music festival got announced this past week that we missed posting on, but it’s a mighty and strong performer in the annual “which festival is truly the best jamband festival” contest: 10,000 Lakes Festival in Minnesota. They announced…
  • Jason Isbell @ Bowery Ballroom, NYC
When Jason Isbell announced that he was leaving Drive-by Truckers to work on his own material, I was looking forward to seeing what would come next. I am a huge fan of the Truckers and his songs are some of…
  • Sasquatch! 2008 Lineup Announced
You’re going to be reading a lot of music festival lineups around the blogs over the next couple days, with this site being no exception to the music blogger rules of engagement. It seems there’s been a nice backlog of…
  • Updates from the Wilco Live Camp
Photo © pneyu Following last week’s uber successful five-night residency here in Chicago, Wilco is set to make a few appearances live this week that all of us at home can take advantage of. On Wednesday, they’re playing the…

  • Mannequin Men @ Ronny’s, Chicago 2.23.08
I heard the Mannequin Men were a very drunk and very loud band that liked to drink and play their instruments loud. I also heard the band’s live show described as drunk and loud. For everyone who is as…
  • The National @ BAM, Brooklyn 2.22.08
Usually before I go to a concert I like to get extra familiar with the music I’m about to see performed. I’ll read a bit about the band, listen to their albums a few times, and prepare for what I’m…
  • The Union Forever | It’s Beeple!
I went back to Madison for the night last Thursday to see a show at my drawing teacher Kendra’s new venue, the Project Lodge. She opened the venue with her boyfriend and fellow Portland, Oregon transplant, Chris. Both people…
  • Man Man Tour Updates
Man Man announced a few updates to their tour dates recently, including the addition of Yeasayer to the Spring dates. Sweet! I’ve updated my original post on their tour dates here. Main support March 4th to April 10th will be…
  • Widespread Panic Gets Free Somehow
They’ve broken free of their past, free of their own expectations, free of themselves. The pieces have fallen into place and Widespread Panic is free somehow. Try as I might, I’ve never really been able to become a big fan…
  • Phish Friday | Normal Revisited
Phish 1999-10-04 Makisupa Policeman, Normal, IL [YouTube] Out of nowhere and completely on a whim, I decided to scan through YouTube lately for a chance that someone would have videos up from the first Phish show I caught: October…

We’ve mentioned it briefly, but we’d really like to start getting more contributions from the actual live music fans that read the site. Drop some comments if you have ideas for how we can make that happen easily. Do you need to send us emails with cell phone photos when some killer collaboration goes down? Is that something you guys want to start seeing more of too? Let us know. We’re working on new features and upgrades for the site and I want to get a sense for what the heads are digging on.

Stop back by tomorrow to help get over your inevitable case of the Mondays.

I saw this brilliant band at the Visulite Theatre in Charlotte, NC. They’re name is Airspace and they’re half-Irish, half-American. I was shocked at the show they put on. I’ve been known to be a cynical asshole, but I have to say that I’ve not been this excited about a band in a very long time! All the elements were there: the music, the performance, etc. The audience absolutely loved these guys and the band loved the audience the same. Two of the band members went on stage during The Whigs’ encore and sang and danced, house party-style. This was a nice contrast to the ever-serious and moody atmosphere created during the Airspace set. Everything about the show was great and I look forward to seeing Airspace play again as they seem to be taking the southeast by storm.
