And we’ve got another one folks…a new festival in our midst. Taking one more step towards the greening of the festival scene, Madison House has teamed with AEG Live to create a brand-new, environmentally sustainable music festival in the woods of western Michigan.

What appears to be a Northern version of the Echo Project, the Rothbury Fest has stacked up one heck of a lineup for its first incarnation over the July 4th holiday weekend (July 3 – 6, 2008). Headliners include Dave Matthews Band, Widespread Panic, John Mayer, 311, Phil Lesh and Friends, Primus, Thievery Corporation, Snoop Dogg, Modest Mouse. Check it out…

That lineup runs pretty deep. This might just be the hot, new ‘flavor of the month’ for the 2008 festival season.

That said, with all these new festivals coming onto the scene, I am definitely wondering if we’re starting to reach a saturation point. Will 2008 be the year of full festival glut or have we stepped into the post-Bonnaroo era where big rock festivals have fully matured into all their uber-glory?

By the way, you’d think with such a solid set of initial artists, they could’ve come up with a better name, no?

Well, at least they win the contest for “most logical festival name based on the geographical area in which it’s staged.” That contest usually sucks, by the way.

Seriously — there’s some crazy good stuff on that lineup. Secret Machines are back on a festival tip, which is cool. It’s bigger on the jamband front than others have been lately, which is good for the hippies in the room. All around it’d be definitely worth a 3.5 hour drive from Chicago…

We have all the members of String Cheese cept for Hollingworth, Two members of Phish, Phil Lesh, and all the late night Trance with Disco, sts9, and Bassnectar. This festival is full of bands that all could be headliners, including one of my favorites Widespread Panic. I can’t help but not buy the early bird tickets! SICK! see you in Michigan!

Man, this looks like it’ll be giving HSMF a run for its money. Decisions, decisions.

Hmmmm… bonnaroo or rothbury? what to do what to do. bonnaroo might need to step it up compared to this lineup.

Does anyone buy the “Green” festival thing or is it just a marketing gimmick to convince some of the more “conscious” fans to attend a cluster-f*ck of a festy with DMB, WSP and John Mayer?

I’ll probably go just because STS9, the Biscuits and Thievery are there. Still, can you imagine all the filth after 50,000 kidz hop in their rides Monday morning and cruise back home?

Bonnaroo just got cut from my summer tour. I got summercamp, rothbury, and 10klf on my list right now. Since this is it’s first year, am I too optimistic to hope for less than 25,000 people?
