Welcome back, I’m so happy to see LMB back in action!

So, I’m no expert on much of this music, and a lot of the Coachella lineup is foreign to me. (It reminds me of going to a very fancy restaurant for my anniversary a few weeks ago; the server came up and asked “do you have any questions about the menu?”, and I replied, “doesn’t everybody?”) So I say this without meaning disrespect. But Coachella seems very weak compared to last year, doesn’t it? I guess I’m not sure why so much excitement, at least comparatively.

Last year’s lineup included: RATM reunion, Bjork, Interpol, Air, VNV Nation, Willie Nelson, Explosions in the Sky, DJ Shadow, LCD Soundsystem, Infected Mushroom, and Amy Winehouse. I mean, woah, crazy! And this year, folks are supposed to be excited? Ok, Kraftwerk is awesome, a super-treat, and then Cinematic Orchestra, Cold War Kids, and I’m sure some cool stuff among the bands I’ve never heard of. Are Portishead and Raconteur such scores? And, as a huge Pink Floyd fan, I’ve never been very impressed by Roger Waters solo (or, for that matter, PF after 1972), so that doesn’t fire me up.

So, let me know which of these bands I’ve either underestimated or never heard of, but should!

P.S. I just read the jambase comments, and don’t want to be confused for a “jerk who don’t know jack” about music. I try to admit that I don’t know jack about most of these bands, but I’m open to listening and I’m looking for pointers.

Thanks for the comment, Jeff — glad to be back.

Last year was pretty sick, no doubt. And it’s all very relative, too — Coachella is one of the earliest announcements and always tends to *BLOW AWAY* whatever else has been announced before it. These days, that’s Langerado and SXSW, two totally different festivals.

In regards to pointers, I’d say Kraftwerk and Battles is a good spot to start. My Morning Jacket, Rogue Wave, and Spank Rock are all pretty good, too. Really everything on every day is pretty awesome.
