NYC’s ‘Rocks Off’ Boat Cruise | 2007 Summer Lineup

Yesterday, I posted the Taste of Chicago’s 2007 concert lineup, and one of our readers commented that he didn’t know of anything similar that happens in NYC. True. I don’t know of any big-time New York food festivals in Central Park with free music (if you do; please enlighten me!). But, there’s definitely one thing I have never heard of happening in Chicago: a concert booze cruise series. Sure, there might be a one-time private event like that here and there, but nothing that compares to NYC’s Rocks Off Concert Cruise Series.

I recently checked out the current Rocks Off 2007 lineup, and there are some great bands playing this summer. Sure, we’ve got our normal cast of jam-heavy characters (Tea Leaf Green, Brothers Past, the Breakfast, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey), but there are also plenty of other bands and DJs that crossover all kinds of categories and genres (Fishbone, Apollo Sunshine, Carbon Leaf, RJD2, Amon Tobin). The list is pretty darn impressive. Plus, there’s nothing quite like rocking out on a boat off the island of Manhattan at the stroke of midnight. Add to that the intimacy of the ‘Rocks Off’ experience and the seafaring debauchery, and you’ve got yourself a great summer night in NYC!

I don’t believe that the School of Rock Festival is Rocks Off… At least there’s no mention of it on the Rocks Off site, nor is there mention of it in Jambase. I think School of Rock Festival is in Jer-z.

But I do know that every year there is a Bustle in Your Hedgerow show. They apparently do it every year for a friend’s b-day. It’s not on the Rocks Off site, but when I was on the boat this weekend, the posted schedules listed a “So and So Memorial Tribute Concert” near late August, when the Bustle shows have occurred in the past.

tols, I think Damon’s point was that School of Rock Fest wasn’t actually a Boat Cruise, but was sponsored by “rocks off” (who also does promo for some NYC venues, like the Gramercy). When I re-checked the site, that appeared to be the case.

Either way, it’s a helluva lineup for the summer festivities. Rocks Off should do these in Chicago (or any other city situated on the water, for that matter).

Bustle in Your Hedgerow is in beaaaaautiful Asbury Park, NJ this year.

Duo is playing Stone Pony “School of Rock”, I think, then down the street for Bustle show at a different bar. I think that its lateshow at Asbury Lanes, but check before you drive on out.

Love boat cruises in NYC – great way to see the skyline and it’s something different to do. I’ve tried a bunch, but I prefer Allen Batista Travel ones – they do great dinner or lunch cruises. Saw that you can get a deal on BuyWithMe NYC – only $39 for a 3hr all you can eat cruise! Here’s the link http://bit.ly/cykZKv
