Who you callin’ D.U.M.B?

Apparently, Umphrey’s McGee & The Disco Biscuits = D.U.M.B.

Umphrey’s McGee and the Disco Biscuits continue to find ways to collaborate, forming clever little acronyms and titles along the way. The bands recently announced their “Trancegression” festival (a cute little marriage of UM’s prog rock label and tDB’s “trance fusion” descriptor). And now they’ve taken it a step further, doing some joint tour dates this summer and dubbing it D.U.M.B.

The bands will co-headline shows in Southeast in June and then re-connect in Colorado in July for Trancegression. The potentially “dumb” naming novelties aside, this is yet another interesting form of collaboration by two bands that are really pushing the limits of improv-heavy rock music. I’m not sure it’s the best marriage in terms of the interest of their fans, but it should give the bands a chance to play larger crowds and it will definitely open up the possibility for more on-stage collaboration. Both bands are also set to do several shows next weekend as part of the Green Apple Music Festival in Chicago.
