Happy Monday morning, folks. Another week gone by, another weekly roundup to be posted…
Sip some coffee with me and catch up on the last week on Live Music Blog…
2007 High Line Festival | Lineup Announced
Even though none of this looks fully official from the source yet, brooklynvegan has the scoop on the performers and schedule on the inaugural High Line Music Festival set in New York City in early May.
Pete Townshend Planning Music Festival for 2008 | Atticfest
Pete Townshend is going to be trying his hand at festival planning and promotion sometime in 2008…
Green Apple Festival 2007 Continues to Expand
As we previously reported, the Green Apple Music & Arts Festival has expanded to three cities for 2007, and will take place April 20-22 in Chicago, New York , and San Francisco. Some additional shows have been announced, including several add-ons to the free shows being played in each city.
From snoe.down to moe.down | moe. Announces Initial Festvial Lineup
Hot off the band’s successful winter festival, they’ve apparently let the cat out of the bag for their annual summer festival: moe.down. This year, the moe.down is slated for Labor Day weekend in Turin, NY and is already set to include the following bands: Medeski, Scofield, Martin, & Wood, J.J. Grey & Mofro, Ryan Adams, the Meat Puppets, Amos Lee, Ryan Montbleau Band, and the Brakes.
Rock the Bells 2007 Hip Hop Festival | Lineup and Dates Announced
Some of these names take me way back to my early music-buying days…Public Enemy? EPMD? Cypress Hill? I’d be curious to see what these groups sound like these days. And I’d be remiss not to mention the addition of the reuniting Rage Against the Machine, which adds an interesting dimension to the lineup.
Phish’s ‘Chairman of the Boards’ | Live on NPR this Friday at Noon ET
The “Chairman” is set to release his solo debut on April 17th. It’ll be interesting to see how this album compares to his previous side-project with bassist Oteil Burbridge and drummer Russel Batiste: Vida Blue. I remember Page’s instrumental work with Vida Blue being pretty darn cool, but overall his songwriting tended to lack some sort of depth (perhaps a bit stinted after years of being overshadowed by the behemoth songwriting team of Trey Anastasio and Tom Marshall). We’ll see.
Bonnaroo 2007 | Artists Additions, Round Two
So Bonnaroo announced a few more artist additions today, including the following: Ornette Coleman, El-P, David Bromberg and Angel Band, Flight of the Conchords, The New Orleans Klezmer Allstars, and Yard Dogs Road Show.
Sound Opinions @ SXSW 2007
I would never approach someone while they’re trying to eat dinner with their friends, so I simply went about my way and snapped a quick cameraphone photo on my way out of the restaurant onto the JamBase showcase…
10,000 Lakes Festival 2007 (10KLF) | Artist Additions, Round Two
Not too shabby…a few solid names on the jam circuit, but nothing that would make or break the original announcement in my eyes.
SXSW 2007 | Downloads and Torrents
I never got around to doing my own roundup of all the downloads, torrents, and streams from the 2007 SXSW Music Festival, but thankfully — Largehearted Boy has got you covered in that department. Stop by his site for an almost-daily updated list of all the free music you can take away from the annual festival.
Live Nation Expands Fillmore ‘Franchise’ | Continues Trend of Corporatizing Venues
I know I know….the surveys and studies say the fans don’t CARE about high ticket prices. Uh-huh. But, who’s doing this research? Who’s getting asked these questions? The people who just got out of the show that they paid for or everyone who considered going to the show? How do they take into account the people who were on the fence? The fans that didn’t want to pay all those ridiculous fees…..the heads who didn’t make it off the couch….or the kids who just lost track and forgot about that new band they might have wanted to check out. Sure, if it’s a sell-out these questions don’t make a difference. People paid. But what about when it’s not a sell-out?
The ‘Chairman’ Hits the Road | Page McConnell 2007 Tourdates
Former Phish keyboardist, Page McConnell, has announced some tour dates in support of his debut solo album, which will be released on April 17th. The ‘Chairman of the Boards’ plans to do a May/June swing through the East and Midwest with his new band that includes Adam Zimmon, Jared Slomoff, Rob O’Dea, and Gabe Jarrett.
Phish Friday | Some ‘Summer of the Cover’ Gems
I’ve been on a 1998 Phish kick lately. Not only was ’98 a pretty big year for Phish, but it was probably my most active year of seeing the band in concert. As a result, I’ve been digging back into the archives to re-listen to some of the shows I experienced first-hand.
High Sierra Music Festival 2007 | Artist Additions
Just a couple weeks back, we reported the initial artist lineup for the 2007 High Sierra Music Festival, which takes place July 5-8th in Quincy, CA . Well, the High Sierra folks have announced some additions to that original lineup: The Disco Biscuits, Drive-By Truckers, Martin Sexton, Vetiver, The Everyone Orchestra, Papa Mali, The Budos Band, and Reeble Jar.
Pitchfork Music Festival 2007 | Lineup Update
The latest artist additions include: De La Soul, Stephen Malkmus (solo), The New Pornographers, Battles, and The Ponys.
First Annual Trancegression Festival
It looks like there’s a whole lot more than Brain Damaged Eggmen in that friendship between the guys in Umphrey’s McGee and the guys in the Disco Biscuits — they’re putting on their own festival this summer in Colorado. The first annual Trancegression Festival will feature both bands in one very killer setting (with additional lineup info to be announced soon).
Podcast #056 – Bisco in Dub
I’ve always been big fan of the Biscuits’ “dub” style of improvisation. While their take on Dub isn’t really the real-deal, classic style of Dub Reggae (by the likes of King Tubby or Augustus Pablo), it’s always been a cool type of dark, instrumental improv that mixes really well with their dancier electronic stylings. I’ve spliced together some of my favorites into a mix I have entitled: Bisco in Dub.
Stay tuned to another solid week of posting and feel free to email any tips our way. We like tips.
