RAQ | 2007 Tour Dates

Any RAQ fans in the room?

My experience with this band has been insanely limited so I’m always eager to hear what other fans think. Are these guys too jambandy for me? How’s their latest studio effort? Do they sound too much like Phish?

These are all gripes I’ve heard from the community or read on message boards, so when I got an email from their road manager letting me know that they were headed out on the road, I thought I’d ask the readers myself…

While I wait for some responses to such an easy Thursday morning question, sit back and enjoy one of their “Dick in the Box”-like tracks from their album release back in 2003 (they better have played this last night, too).

Tour dates after the jump and let us know what you think. The band will be watching.

I once described RAQ as Phish mixed with… Phish. I don’t think they liked it too much when I said it to them. But that was a few years ago and bands evolve so the may be mixed with something else now.

If I heard Phish mixed with Phish, you would think that I would love it.

    Unfortunately, I didn’t.

I may give them one more chance since they’re playing Park West.

LOL — you told them that straight to their face? Hilarious.

But then again, true is true and if that’s what you hear, that’s what you hear. I’ll admit, the first time I heard them, “PHISH” immediately jumped in my head.

But they also can jam with the best of them, otherwise they wouldn’t be playing festivals like Summer Camp 2006. They’ve got to be doing something right…

Raq has been an interesting evolution. They are sorta like particle (not necessarily in musical format) – the first time I saw em, I was blown away. Every time since, I’ve been less impressed.

The last time I caught them I left after the first set – the guitarist was off putting with his somewhat arrogant stage presence, and the jams were wankfests – really predictible.

I would consider myself a RAQ fan but I agree the reason I like them is because it reminds me of PHISH. Almost every song sounds like its Phish, which I never think is a bad thing but it deffinetly lacks creativity or their own sound. They could practically be a phish cover band. With all that said I still love them and think people don’t give them a chance because it is so PHISHY. Most people say if they want to hear phish they just listen to an old phish cd instead of RAQ.

well, I just wanted to post something postive about RAQ. i love em, and thier newer stuff sounds alot more like RAQ then like PHISH to me.

But even the awesome tunes that sound like phish still sound like a unique band, imo.

I’d tell the band not to listen to the nay sayers because as long as they keep maturing as a band and working hard there will always be a solid spot for them on the scene. and who knows, maybe they’ll be giging top venues in a few years. i sure hope so. i mean, thier shows are killer. BTW, im seeing them tonight!!!
