After recently selling out its five-night run at NYC’s Judson Memorial Church (which starts tonight), indie stalwarts the Arcade Fire have announced a slew of tour dates in Europe and North America. The tour includes several multi-night runs in big cities both across the pond and here in the U.S. and Canada, along with a stop at the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, CA.

Judging by the demand for their February NYC shows, these should be some pretty hot tickets. Let the indie kids go wild!

Dates, commentary and video after the jump…

Exclusive: Arcade Fire Unveil North America Tour [via Pitchfork]

If you hang out in the music blog world at all, the Arcade Fire hype can sometimes be deafening. I’m not completely convinced they’re set to take over the world, especially until I get to experience their live set. But there’s something really cool going on with this band’s sound, a mix of unique textures, eclectic instrumentation, and pure vocal energy. Although it took me a while to give into the hype, I really dig their first album, Funeral, which is in pretty consistent rotation on the old iPod.

That said, what I’ve heard from their upcoming releaseNeon Bible (out March 6th) — has been a step towards the darkness, something that other fans seem to either love or hate. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of show they bring to the table on this big ass tour.

If you’re wondering about their live show, here’s a video from their 11/3/05 show at the Melkweg in Amsterdam (via FabChannel):

If you like what you hear, you can grab Funeral here and/or pre-order Neon Bible here.

Any appreciation you have for them now will be exponential when you see them live.
