And by the way… do you really think they needed help attracting a crowd by becoming “diverse”? I think they were doing a pretty good job getting the 90,000 tickets sold every single year…

There’s a lot of talk about Superfly being responsible or to blame for the shape of the Bonnaroo line-up, but from what I understand, they aren’t the only group that books Bonnaroo. I have a friend who works for AC Entertainment, and she’s been talking about their booking Bonnaroo for months (although she wouldn’t tell me any secrets!). If you think this year’s line-up is a “radical shift,” I just don’t think you’ve been paying real attention to the complete line-ups of years past. By the way, I’m one of those “old ladies” who can’t wait to see Elvis Costello. I’m the one who smells like lavender and goes by “Veronica.”

I only refererenced superfly because they have a much cooler name…

Nobody said that there hasn’t been diversity at b’roo, anybody who has been there knows that there is, but alot of people travel a long way(and look forward to it) and expect to see some big name Jam Bands headline, with some extra crispy funk groovin to the early mornings, and I liked walking around all day checking the other acts out that I didnt come to see. Why fix what isn’t broke, especially when everyone always raves about how “it was the best time of my life”

I was disappointed that widespread or cheese or yonder wasn’t on the bill for this year. And since I’m a guy who used to be into indie and just recently (within the last year) got into more jam band type stuff I’m not really excited about Death Cab or Bright Eyes. Whatever, I still plan on seeing my first Bonnaroo this summer. The first day of the show will be my 19th birthday, I’m excited already.

Bonnaroo has diluted their lineup and alienated many of their fans, they have been the world’s most successful festival, period. I’m sure they will continue this trend with this lineup but I for one will not be attending. As others have stated, I too feel let down

Ok, I will admit it, I was shocked to see what bands are playing bonnaroo this year, since this will be my first year attending. I’ve attended coachella the last 3 years, but bonnaroo won me over this time. I am a huge radiohead fan, however before you judge me I’ve been in the mud of the “its all good festival” with you “heads” and I’ve been through many phish and yonder mountain and keller shows. I am not a hippie, or whatever people want to describe themselves these days, but I am a musician and a music fan. Yes, improv is a sign of talent, however, there are non jam bands that have talent as well. It sickens me to see how prejudice fans of the jam band genre have become, I mean, there are bands for everyone there. You say its going to be another woodstock 99? Well I was at woodstock and this won’t be, since the bands still promote good times not shit mosh pits. There is no reason to hate a festival that’s taking a different approach to this years versus the years before, because getting people together is the main goal. Bonnaroo will bring ppl together, just like coachella does. If you can’t accept other people’s freedoms to like more music than widespread panic, then I have to say that you really don’t appreciate music for what it is, and probably shouldn’t go. I will drive the 17 hours to get there, and I will have a good time. So if you really don’t like the fact that bonnaroo wants to be more diverse, don’t go. This way I can hang out with more people that are willing to be diverse.

“are you kidding? “good stuff” is a musician who can improvise his/her way through a set w/out sounding rehearsed and rehashed everytime they hit the stage. i’d say the “good stuff” would be some afrobeat, some jazz, some more blues (but thank GOD for Buddy Guy – the best addition in the history of bonnaroo in my opinion), how about some Santana instead of Radiohead. the remaining members of the doors, how about something not so trendy. this lineup appeals to everybody under 21 and maybe a few old ladies wanting to catch elvis costello. didn’t superfly learn from previous failures… a good album doesn’t mean a good live performance, and that is what a festival is for – SOLID live music. i think they jumped a little to far off the shark this year. but hey, to each his own right?”

This is all easier for me to say now that Oysterhead, Bisco and Umphrey’s got added, but this is the dumbest paragraph I’ve ever seen. First of all, this person has never seen Radiohead, this is clear.

Second, he is calling for a Santana appearance… someone who has rendered himself irrelevant by letting horrible people take over his songs with him wanking off his guitar in the background, then earning a platinum album.

Old ladies wanting to see Elvis Costello? Are you kidding me? You lost all credibility right there, because Elvis has remained one of the greatest performers for the last 25 years.

I went to see moe. this weekend and was wholly unimpressed by their improv… awesome, let’s screw around, build up, climax, and go back to the beginning! genius!

Let’s not his addition of “oh man, good thing they put in Buddy Guy, because I’m a purist. I’ll give them that, they know who Buddy Guy is.” Unbelievable.

These comments are hysterical to me! The real “hippies” and jamband fans/musicians back in the day hated being pre-judged; they were all about being open minded.

Now, these latter day jamband fans are judging this line-up without even really knowing the music of many of bands.

You’re pissed off because Panic and String Cheese arent’ there? Boo-hoo. Take a look at some other music. And someone says Sonic Youth can’t improvise? I am laughing hysterically out loud at that!!!! (I know they’re not in the line-up, he referenced them in the same context.)

Wow, this amazes me, but probably shouldn’t. Some hippies and jamband fans are so closed-minded and elitist that they put the indie hipsters to shame.

And those even thinking to compare this to a Woodstock ’99 are out of their minds!!!!!!!!!!! Way out! These indie band fans don’t even really take drugs or drink that much. They’re all about the music. And they are passive, they won’t get in your face like some jamband stupidheads on Molly who think they can twirl and dance into everyone else’s space.

Sorry, I very rarely use this word, but anyone who is worried about the crowd is either a moron or just very, very uninformed.
