Of the 13 artists that have been will be announced for Wakarusa 2006 (or will be announced…), there are three that have “groove” in their band name. Perpetual Groove, Shanti Groove, and Groovatron are all going to be playing on the Groove Stage right past the Groove Vendor Area. Not really.
Yeah, I mean, no one can really complain that the South Park Die, Hippie, Die episode is blasphemy. Personally, I think we’re just feeding them material with some of the predictability surrounding the “hippie-jamband festival” and all the crunchy grooves that tend to flow from the Wall of Sound. Not to be negative or nothin’…
For me, I saw serious potential and great genius come out when they announced Vegoose. I’d like to see some of the festivals branch out more (hopefully their Battlerusa promotion will bring that in) and they’ve got plenty of spots left to fill.
Also, I’m really not trying to make a full example of Wakarusa here as the “predictable jamband festival”. I think a lot of the festival announcements you’ll read about soon will have plenty, plenty, plenty of repeats that might start to get stale by the end of the year. I know I’m not that prophetic when saying that…there are others that feel this way, too…
And, supposedly, the full artist announcement is going to “silence the haters,” so that’s something to look forward to…
