Trey Tour Begins in Ernest

by -

Following a fairly well-regarded couple of shows in Vegoose, Big Red kicked off his Shine-sponsored tour in Minneapolis last night.

In a weird turn of events I never thought I’d come to say, I’m actually more interested in hearing the opening act’s performance than Trey’s. We’re big fans of Tea Leaf Green around here, and the Redheaded F*ckface better have brought his A-Game if he’s to share a bill with the tightest band around right now.

Anyhoo, here’s last night’s setlist:

11/02/05 The Orpheum Theatre, Minneapolis, MN
Set I: Mr. Completely, Cayman Review, Shine, Drifting, Dark And Down, Money Love and Change, Sweet Dreams Melinda, Spin, Come As Melody, Driver*, Heavy Things*, AC/DC Bag*, Wilson*, Tuesday, Sleep Again, The Way I Feel, Low, Ether Sunday, Wherever You Find It, Push On Til the Day
Encore: Love is Freedom
*acoustic

Previously on LMB: Pop Star Trey Makes a Video; Tea Leaf Green Breaks Even on Date Change; and Newbs and Vets, Time to Argue: Trey’s Hittin’ the Road.

So, I guess Trey’s mini-acoustic sets aren’t really that special considering he’s doing them every single night. It’s a cool idea, but then again, completely predictable.

    Eh, I like ‘em.

Granted, he told us (Jones Beach this summer) that he wanted to do it as a special thing, but it’s also much cooler than a setbreak. It’s like when the Dead did Drums > Space, only with acoustic music. I likey.

If I only enjoyed the rest of his stuff more, than the show would be perfect. We’ll see next Tuesday.

    So TLG played this:

    Incadescent Devil
If It Wasn’t For The Money
    Vote on Tuesday
    Two Chairs
    I’ve Been Seeking
    Taught to be Proud
    Waiting for My Man

Looks like a good opening set…as I just read on their board, “It feels like we’re cheering on our home team during a playoff away game.” Brilliant, Andy.
