Open Post

Consider I really don’t ever do this, I figured it was worth a shot. This is an open post. Go crazy in the comments.

Anyone see any good shows this week? New CDs? Anyone see any crappy covers played this week, like, well, I don’t know, Lenny Kravitz maybe? (that would be horrible)

I'm the Editor. HOLLA.

I saw the new Steve Kimock Band this weekend (Kimock, Reed Mathis, Robert Walter, Rodney Holmes & Martin Fierr) and I must say – they rocked! A totally new sound, smooth and complex and very inspirational.

Check them out when they come to your town.

I was thinking about trying to catch their show coming up in Chicago. I still haven’t ever seen him live, so I think I should give it a shot.

I saw Tea Leaf Green in NYC this weekend (in addition to Phix and then The Duo on Wednesday and Thursday), and hoooooly jeeeez, these guys are the real deal. Hopefully I’ll get up a little review tomorrow, but I cannot get over the quality of last night’s show. I’ve never been so impressed since the first time I saw those four dudes from that Vermont place.

    Anyone ever see these guys?

Caught their show at the ‘roo this year -they only got an hour to play early sat afternoon so it was hard to get into it – but they sounded pretty decent from what I remember.

Re: music locally, been going thru a dry spell recently but got PGroove this coming weekend, 2 nights, Phix and Widespread in mid-Oct, and Umphrey’s at Revolution in Lauderdale on 10/20, so, things are definitely looking up…

I remember living in the City, Ace, and having all this incredible music right at my fingertips -I see you take full advantage, as you should..G-d knows I did.. .

I also saw Tea Leaf Green in NYC last night. It was fuckin amazing!! What an awesome show! ANd on Friday I saw The Breakfast over at the Lion’s Den. That was also pretty kick ass. They did a rockin cover of “The Man in Me.” (you might remember that song as the intro to the Big Lebowski.) In other words I had a pretty sweet weekend, which sorta made up for not being able to make it up to Moe.Down the other weekend. peace out kids

Niiiice, Marianne, I almost went to that Breakfast show, too. But since I saw stuff on Wednesday and Thursday and needed at leas some sleep on Friday, I passed. I love “The Man in Me” though…

Scotty, I try to take advantage of the scene here, but it goes in cycles. I’ll see a bunch of shows in one week and then none for a few after that. I need more consistency. That said, I’ve probably seen like40 different bands this year, so no complaining out of me.

I will say, I cannot believe how amazing that Tea Leaf Green show was. Unreal.

There is no doubt that TLG is realer than the Real Deal Holyfield. Those guys have the charisma, songs, jams, and youth to hit it really, really big. Pissed I missed them at the Knit, but I am sure glad I saw them at Jazzfest (Blue Nile) and on the Rocks Off Cruise after a yawner of a Trey show. Jazzfest felt like a coming out show for them, and I echo the sentiments that the last time I felt like that was back at the Keswick in Philly in ’92 after seeing my first (headlining) Phish show.

Enough of all this talk about TLG, I’m now signed in and listening to the Tea Leaf Green radio (thanks Andy for the link).

    More thoughts later…

Okay, I think I might get it now.

They’re actually pretty sweet from what I’m hearing. Sounds like early Umphrey’s / Phish with some New Monsoon-type grooves. Maybe not. Who the hell knows, anyways. It’s good-sounding music if you ask me. They’ve got some great melodies that have some serious room for growth. Good stuff.

I saw STS9 on Friday night. Man what a show! These guys had the entire place bumping. Great grooves and inspiring jams. The entire audience was dancing their asses off. Besides the expensive drinks the House of Blues is a great venue to see a show.
